The available options, the vocabulary of risk, the data in the room, the missing stakeholders, and the implicit cost of disagreement all shape what can be chosen.
Before the meeting
If we want better decisions, we should look upstream. Who framed the question? Which alternatives were allowed to exist? What kinds of uncertainty were made legitimate?
Decision design is the discipline of making these conditions explicit before the group commits to a path.
